The #1 Most Important Dental Tip

The most important tip to healthy teeth may be the 48 Hour Rule: Do not go two days without brushing your teeth! Why is this two day period so important?  Plaque begins forming on your teeth every time you eat.  And after 48 hours, plaque turns into tartar that cannot be removed by brushing.

So what is plaque? According to scientists “it is an extremely sticky, colorless to pale yellow deposit of biofilm that regularly forms on your teeth. ... If bacteria deposits from plaque on teeth aren't removed through regular brushing and flossing, they can cause tooth decay, gum disease and tartar buildup”.

Certain foods like sour candies, potato chips, carbonated beverages, alcohol and dried fruits can increase plaque growth. So, if you eat these foods, like almost everyone, make sure you brush before you go to bed.

Plaque tends to build up between teeth and where your teeth meet your gums.  That’s why a good, soft toothbrush that reaches these areas is so important. No matter what type of toothbrush you use: Use it at least once a day. Twice is better.  And remember to floss everyday and have regular cleanings for good overall oral health.

Be sure to always replace your brush when the bristles start to spread out or a minimum of every 3 months. We recommend (of course) a Toof Brush because of its thousands of double-layer, ultrafine bristles, 8-degree curved head and a hygienic cover that keeps your brush in shape.  Just tap it on the edge of the sink when you’re done brushing, place it in the cover and hang it on the suction cup holder. You’ll have a brighter smile knowing that you’ve also put a free brush into the mouth of someone who really needs one.
